The Marcus Conant Fellowship honors Dr. Marcus Conant MD, a pioneering dermatologist and HIV physician who was instrumental in diagnosing and treating HIV/AIDS during its early days. He founded the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and established a multidisciplinary group to study the disease. Dr. Conant has been a strong advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, contributing over 70 articles on AIDS treatment and testifying before Congress. The fellowship aims to provide essential funding for early-career researchers at UCSF focused on skin diseases related to HIV and the health of the LGBTQ+ community, thereby enhancing recruitment and competitiveness in this vital field.
Applications for the Marcus Conant Fellowship are open to medical students who are interested in serving the LGBTQ+ community and individuals living with HIV. The selection of fellows takes place in January for the following summer fellowship. Typically, fellows spend eight weeks working with Dr. Leslie’s team on research and clinical projects. Please email [email protected] for further information. UCSF does not use race, gender, sex, or other protected categories or proxies for protected categories in the selection process.
