We are dedicated to addressing skin diseases that significantly impact people living with HIV (PLWH) and the LGBTQ+ community. Our research spans a spectrum of conditions, from stigmatizing and distressing diseases like mpox to life-threatening cancers such as Kaposi's sarcoma.
Our work operates at multiple levels, including:
- Primary Research: Conducting studies to understand and combat these health challenges.
- Mentoring: Training and inspiring the next generation of physicians to provide compassionate and informed care.
- Community Advocacy: Engaging with the community to raise awareness and reduce stigma associated with these conditions.
We are committed to developing educational programs that focus on the unique health challenges faced by these populations, promoting cultural competence, and fostering mentorship opportunities. By equipping future healthcare providers with the necessary knowledge and skills, we aim to improve health outcomes and diminish stigma.
Our efforts are bolstered by partnerships with esteemed organizations, including the Clinton Health Access Initiative, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG), Kenya's Ministry of Health, the Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (African CDC). These collaborations enhance our research capabilities and provide vital resources to support our initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes for PLWH and the LGBTQ+ community.
